Race and Ethicity

The hispanic dropout mystery: I always heard things about Hispanics having the highest dropout rates then any other race but I guess I just never paid much mind to it. I have relatives and Hispanics friends that didn't complete school and most of the reasons were the same reasons mentioned in the article, they felt they couldn't keep up with their grades, they felt judged or left out or they much rather work to have an income. I would of thought that the Hispanic immigrants would have a higher rate of drop outs then the American Hispanics so after reading in the article that the drop out rate for childern of American born Hispanics is even higher the those to immigrants it had me think back to the relatives and Hispanic friends I know that dropped out and all of them were born in America and can speak English really good. Also I think teachers going beyond the classroom to counsel at risk students and their families would be a great way to help the Hispanic dropout rates. This kind of reminds me of the movie freedom writers with the hispanic chick who had a bad attitude and was always acting out and the teacher showed her she was available and tried her best to help her out beyond classroom wise sooner or later the Hispanics chick started changing her attitude and becoming more involved in school. Not only the Hispanic chick but all the kids in the classroom started becoming more productive with themselves. So I think if teachers were more involved and and have more opportunities for the childern the drop out rate would decrease not only for Hispanic but any other race. Doubly divided: This was an interesting article. The racial wealth gap between races are extremely unequal and sadly it will remain that way it seems like the gap will never be closed. The whites would do anything to stay on top. It seems that everything a different culture tired to success the whites made it impossible to make it happened. One of the interesting things I read in the article and was actually something I didn't know was that African American families did become farmer and businesspeople in the 20th century it's sad that people tried to destroy their homes and success and on top of that the federal government burned a blind eye on them. Also the white destroying what was called the black wall street just to stay on top of the game. There is an unequal standard with whites and blacks even if blacks were to make the same amount of money as a white person simply because most likely the black person parents aren't wealthy and the whealth can't be phased down as opposed to a white person family whose wealth can be passed down Another thing is I kinda considered asains white so this makes me question who is considered white?

  1. why do you think asians as white? i never thought to compare them to whites. I think its weird how white, this plain color is considered to be a race and a parised one too, its mainly because most of the rich are white or ligt skinned.
