socialization

killing us softly:
For many years advisement in the media not only uses woman to sell a product but sets an image as to how a woman should look and how she should be like. According to the ads woman must be skinny long legged big beast and big butt and a flat stomach. Advertisements today still hold an effect on the image of woman. In ads you'll see a w
oman photographed into looking perfect like a barbie doll, kissing or caressing a guy or getting their hair pulled in a sexually violate way. Like woman arent human but sexual objects When young girls see these ads they automatically believe that they need a guy to make them happy and to get a guy they need to look just as perfect as the woman in the ads does. Oppose to men in ads that looks like they hold so much power against woman and isn't portrayed as perfection.

A call to men:
Men are known to not be sensitive and show no type of emotions but to be brave and controlling to woman., like they carry all the control. They have guild lines most men follow called the man box tells them they shouldn't cry or express feelings openly not to be like a women but to act like a man. And if they show feelings other then anger and cry or whine in public their not being men but instead acting like woman.

Both videos explain how both males and females act should. How both have roles to play in the society. Men should have power over their woman and be brave strong and never weak. While on the other hand women are more of a object for sexually pleasure then actual humans. That woman should be skinny with a flat belly and big beast. In society men and women are stereotyped to play a certain role and if that role inst performed as it should be we could be constantly criticized about our actions.

  1. Nicole,

Nice work with your blog. I wonder what your thoughts of Nicki Minaj are because in so many ways she represents the same type of imagery that Kilborn discusses in her documentary. Nice images.

    1. thank you, i chose a picture of Nicki Minaj because the way she lables herself as a "barbie" and how she keeps up with the barbie image with her hair, nails, make up and body looking perfect. When she started getting big in the game a lot of her fans where trying to do the same thing trying to look to perfection and considering themselves as barbies to make them feel beautiful and apart of society. Overall i feel that her barbie doll image is sending a wrong message to young ladies. Its bad enough society alone puts pressure on how we should look and her as an icon to other young ladies just adds more pressure to how our appearance should look to be accepted and beautiful.
